A unique opportunity for a family physician with emergency medicine experience exists with the Department of Family Medicine, Horizon Health Network, New Brunswick. We are actively seeking Family Physicians to share an existing practice on Grand Manan Island, and provide on call coverage to the Grand Manan hospital after hours and on weekends.
Grand Manan is the largest island in the Bay of Fundy connected by a 90 minute ferry ride from Black’s Harbour, NB. Grand Manan Hospital serves an island population of 2,500 which grows to 5,000 during the summer months. Its economy is mainly dependent on fishing, aquaculture and tourism. http://www.grandmanannb.com.
Grand Manan Hospital has ten beds and provides the following services: 24/7 Emergency, Interdisciplinary Primary Care, Outpatient Specimen Collection, Pediatrics, Telehealth consultation and Teleradiology, with 5,100 annual emergency department visits. It is part of Horizon Health Network. Patients arriving that require complex diagnostics or critical care, are transferred to the province’s mainland referral hospitals.

The candidate will work with two other full time family physicians and a nurse practitioner to provide family health medical care services to Island residents and participate in the after hours/weekend call rotation.
Estimated Annual salary - $175,786, plus location allowance $75,000 = $250,786.
We will also consider full-time term candidates for terms of one year or more. Benefits available for a permanent placement; term physician receives additional 10% of salary in lieu of benefits
Family Medicine physicians may be part of the Family Medicine teaching program affiliated with Dalhousie University Medical School postgraduate and a satellite undergraduate program.
Canadian College of Family Physicians certification preferred, but consideration will be given to other North American qualifications and training. Emergency training and/or experience is required. Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
